As part of my morning routine, I check out various SolidWorks forums and blogs. I learn a lot and, sometimes, I actually teach someone a new trick. This morning, I was pointed to a couple of different blog posts. The first one, by PR, Marketing and the Business of CAD, was about this year’s SolidWorks World in New Orleans and Autodesk’s attempts to divert attendees of last year’s event to their own "mini-event", and whether AutoDesk would try something again this year. The blog goes on to talk about some other tricks that Autodesk has pulled and how the "general feeling" is that Autodesk has risen above such childish games with Carl Bass at the helm. I’ve heard of various "stunts" that AutoDesk has pulled over the years. I think the worst thing, though, was the now infamous video that was posted for a while on Youtube. While it’s no longer there, you can see stills of it on Evan Yares’ blog. It seems to me that, while AutoDesk takes it further than most, bashing your competition is in the makeup of corporate America. The old "if you can’t beat them, then beat them" mentality. Instead of wasting time, money and brain power on debasing your competition, use them to put out a competitive product.
Y’know, I feel a completely unrelated rant coming on about time and effort wasted in corporate America, and this just isn’t the place for that, so I’m going to sign off before I get myself into trouble.
