I figured it’s about time that I jumped on the SolidWorks ’08 bandwagon and talked about some of the "what’s new" stuff. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at DimXpert.
Using the requirements of the ASME Y14.41-2003 standard, DimXpert applies tolerances and dimensions to parts. How does it do this? It uses, in this order, these methods:
- Model feature recognition
- Topology recognition
A few of the model features recognized are: Boss, Chamfer, Fillet, Pocket (shell) or plane. You can find the full list under Help->What’s New in SW ’08.
Why is this good? Well, if you make changes to model features, or add faces and features, DimXpert will recognize these changes.
If feature recognition doesn’t work, SolidWorks uses Topology recognition.Topology recognition will recognize features that model feature recognition won’t. A couple of examples are slots and notches (don’t ask me why, ok?).
In the end, you can just create your drawing and all your dims and GTOL will be there! Simply great.
