Excellent post Jeff! Being my first World I didn't have anything to compare it to (except stories for you guys), but I really enjoyed everything! I was not going just for the special events, and if that is reason someone decides to go, then I feel they will not get as much out of it as the rest of us. Any party is just a bonus, no matter how it's handled.

Talking with other users and sharing stories was some of the best parts about it for me.

I'm already set for Texas, and I'll even be able to bring another person this time!

So I say, keep up the great work Kerri and company! I'll be there!

I don't begrudge SolidWorks at all for doing what was right by their employees, and I think they made the right choice in what to scale back. There were still folks doing the networking thing at the event. It was still an awesome SWW!

BTW, on the comment I made on a previous post that I think Kerri was referring to; I said that I had heard Santana was considered for LAST year in Orlando as a cost-cutting measure, not this year...

[...] I decided to do something different, I followed the Data Management track for all of the sessions I attended. I am glad I did, there were some great sessions given by top notch presenters: Jerry Winters, Dan Burmenko, Joy Garon, Randy Simmons, Jeff Sweeney, … [though my name got left off of the program...what's up with that?! That's the real question we should be asking Kerri Dunne.] [...]

Jeff, thanks for posting this. I see myself agreeing with the others because as much as I didn't enjoy the special event, I did enjoy the rest of the week. All but one of the sessions I attended were very good, the layout was good, the rooms were sized correctly (not too crowded) and I got a lot out of it (as well as my company).

See you in San Antonio next year.

It was scaled back but I don't care about the "Special Event" as much as the time to hang out with other attendees. Granted the band was OK but there still were a few hundred people out in front chanting "One More Song" so it wasn't too bad. I think Kerri and team did a great job in selecting what to scale back since this was, for me, the best SWWC yet. It was good to get the behind the scenes info, thanks buddy! ~Lou

Jeff,
Thanks for posting this. Most of us in attendance had some conversation about this subject and came to most of the same conclutions. As a single event at SWW10 this was a bit of a let down from years past, but, as a whole, the conference was a smashing success as always. As a side note for future special events, one of the reasons I go to SWW is to network. This years setup was not conducive to any type of conversation even when the band was on break due to the loudness of the background music. I am looking forward to next year and what is in store for San Antonio.
